In 2015, your nuptials were upstaged by a stunningly handsome and charming wedding officiant. But it’s still a red-letter day in your relationship, for obvious reasons. A glorious, memorable afternoon in the Low Country.
There’s this little hill in the South of France known as “The Hill of Hermitage.” Vines have been growing there since 600BC. It’s surrounded by the Cotes du Rhone, one of the country’s most popular wine regions, one that’s expanded exponentially over the past decade or two. But the thing about Hermitage is that it’s just a hill. It can’t grow. It’s 345 acres of vinyeard, and that’s it. Other regions around it add acreage, maybe even in areas that aren’t as prime for grape-growing, so they can sell more wine with their name on the label, but not Hermitage. 345 acres, and that’s all. (As a point of comparison, Chateau Lafite Rothschild, a famous Bordeaux winery, has 265 acres to themselves.)
25 years of marriage. That’s not something to celebrate with an everyday wine. A wine that came from some add-on to a wine region. That’s something to celebrate with a rarity. That’s something to toast with Hermitage.
